We had our wonderful, everthing looks good checkup last Wednesday. Since the nurse drew the last vial of blood needed to complete the tests, she says, "We'll call you within the week if the tests come back abnormal. Otherwise, we'll discuss them at your next appointment."
Well, we got home from school/VB practice yesterday to a message on the machine: "This is FL Hospital in Celebration calling for Rebecca Rosenbaum, reference #......., we will be available until 7:00 pm this evening. Please call us as soon as you get this message. Thank you."
Ummm....what are we supposed to think....except that we are "within" that week where test results should have come back. So, I called...AND I COULDA KILLED 'EM! (Ok, not killed, but....) They wanted to pre-register me downstairs for our sonogram next week. Yep. That's it. Way to give us new parents HEART ATTACKS! So, rest easy, everything appears to be ok...so far!
Developments---not much has changed recently. I'm starting to show just a little. It might be the recent transition to the heavenly stretchy pants or that I'm not sure I want to stretch out all of my non-maternity shirts/sweaters any longer. It's been about 19.5 weeks now, gained 10 pounds on the dot. I guess that's pretty good. Baby is steadily growing---Adam loves talking to him/her. He's so cute!
SInce I'm on my feet ALL DAY, I'm pretty sure the baby sleeps most of the time. Seems to be most active around dinner time and shortly after right now. It may be attributed to being on my feet all the time, but when I sit too long at night now, my back hurts a little. Whatever. I figure it goes along with the territory!
Lastly, I'm so excited because my friend Michelle here at school is giving me her Medela Pump In Style along with the car adapter and all the goodies. Sweet! Those puppies run around $250, so even if I have to purchase a couple of new attachments, it won't be nearly as much! Michelle, you ROCK!
We're looking into hypnobirthing as a possibility for labor. We've been hearing a lot of fabulous things about it from so many people. There is a lady close to us who is an instructor--that would be nice, but even if we don't take the classes, we purchased the book/CD. Hey, any way you can relax couldn't be bad. Thanks Meg, for introducing us to the concept---seems like whenever I mention it now, somebody knows somebody who used it.
I've rambled on long enough---enjoy today!

yeah for the gift of the Medela pump! but please tell mne that you will not be pumping and driving at the same time. please tell me that you will pump in the car only while it is not moving (ie: in a parking lot when a pump room is not available) or only when you are the passanger. safety, please. way too many of my colleagues here have done it/do it, but it cannot really be that safe. let's see...two hands on the breasts. that leaves none to steer the car. i don't care how good of a driver you are with your knee...
hugs and kisses. miss you. peg
Pumping in a car? What WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT? I hate looking at people picking their nose in a car and now you say there are devices for private things like that????? bad enough I have been in Woodfield Mall and have seen women not so discreetling "feeding" their kid......
TELL ME NO WAY! I must retreat back to my cave now and cover my eyes!
Tootles............
Becky,
Breastfeeding is the most natural and wonderful thing in the world, and breast milk is THE best food for your baby. I think it's awesome that you're taking steps to provide Baby 'Baum with this nutrition!
I nursed Lucy in malls, on planes, in Wal-Mart, even Disney World and every time, I just told myself, if anyone has a problem with me making sure my baby is getting food, they can take a flying leap out a window (or out of the plane, as the case may be). Get a good "nursing reference" book, or call me when you need a morale boost, and remember that you're making the best choice for your kid. It's worth it. :)
I was very fortunate that all my family and friends were super-supportive of breastfeeding. (Either that, or they knew I was mule-headed enough that they didn't bother to try to contradict me.) Please be careful to surround yourself with people who support you and your choices. Even teeny little comments that belittle or otherwise "knock down" your values... those can seep into your brain like poison.
Be strong! And know that whatever decisions you make, that they are what YOU believe is the best thing for your family. And that is the most important thing.
P.S. Peg, I am DYING laughing at the thought of pumping while driving!! PWD! I usually wished I had FOUR arms just for pumping alone... I can't imagine anyone driving at the same time. :) :)
Oh! Beck! Sorry, I forgot. Who else do you know who has done hypnobirthing? I would love to hear some other women's stories. I am a little doubtful about it working for me so if you know anyone who loved it, I would love to hear about it. :) Thanks sweets!
How scary! Glad it was nothing - as those types of things usually are, thank goodness. But it is very nerve-racking, nonetheless.
Sounds like you're handling everything in stride - keep up the good work! Remember that it's a natural part of childbirth to worry about the unknown. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is kidding themselves. You're going through something HUGE for the first time and it IS one of the best times of your life - but those times inevitibly come with ups AND downs. Life isn't always fun - that's just not reality! But the good times FAR outweigh the bad, and that's what you have to remember.
A BIG yea for getting a breastpump - good for you. One of the best investments I ever made. I so very much wish I could have nursed Josie, but it just wasn't in the cards for me, so I did what I thought was second-best and pumped for 5 months. If it would have been good for my little girl- I certainly would have pumped in the car if need be. Not while driving, of course :)
I can't wait to hear more about your hypnobirthing discoveries... that's something I didn't do a whole lot of research on, but wish I had. Probably because I didn't know anyone who had used it. But knowledge is power... too bad some people choose to remain ignorant and don't learn more about all of the options out there. Learn all you can and make your choices... they are YOURS to make.
Love ya, babe.
