I Am You and You is Me

So, Vivian thinks her name is You. Don't know why...because we DO call her by her actual name...

Must be the whole, Where are you going? Are you hiding? Did you have a good sleep? Are you wet? Do you want some supper? Well, you get the picture.

So we go through names...dadda, momma, papa (grandpa), ramma (grandma), Elmo...then we say, "What's your name?" To which she promptly replies, "You!"

Silly girl.

That story is very interesting, because in ECFE class we were just talking about using pronouns rather than referring to everyone in the third-person. "Come give Mommy a kiss... I'm going to put Vivian's shoes on now," etc. Our teacher said the pronouns were the way to go, but I can see how Vivian might be confused! :)

In another related story, my sister knows a mom whose son actually thought his name was "Alex Adams Don't Do That".

Super cute.

Josie used to get her age and name confused. You'd ask her her name and she'd say "Two!"

Viv will get it figured out. And if not, You Rosenbaum has a nice ring to it.

I don't know you but I saw this post when I googled about a child calling themselves "you". My daughter is 20 months and does the exact same thing! She can call everyone else in the family by name- even the cat but she is "you"! Have you had any luck getting her to ay her name? I would love to know how, I feel like I've tried everything!
